I Had An Abortion
We had an abortion! My desire to share this information is to destimagtize abortions and add my voice, heart and hands toward making sure all women have access to safe abortions everywhere, forever.
My husband and I have been together for almost five years and around the halfway point I found out I was pregnant. We had already discussed having children and our answer was “Not for us.”
Even though:
-We’re in a loving, healthy relationship
-We’re in our 30’s
-We’re both gainfully employed
-We were house hunting at the time and now own a home
We did not want to be parents. Bottom line. End of story.
We made an appointment at Planned Parenthood. Upon arrival I felt safe and respected. I was comforted by the fact that there were all women in the room (except for Justin who sat beside me). I felt some cramping in the belly and in less than 20 minutes or so it was over. I had a personal ceremony before and after that was meaningful to me.
**A deep thank you to Planned Parenthood who has had my back since college when I had no insurance, no money and didn’t know where to turn. They helped with colds, contraception, STD testing, breast exams, got me the HPV vaccine, gave me sound advice and never ever judged me or put me in financial distress. ANGELS.**
I have known since I was a little girl that I did not want to birth or raise children. Ask any of my friends, I’m a Mom at heart, I love taking care of my family and friends. I love nourishing people and being of service. AND, I don’t want to sign up for the huge, sacrificial, massively underappreciated, job of raising children. It’s huge work and I’m first in line to stand in awe of Motherhood and all of its layers. WARRIORS. For me, I’m happiest taking care of adults and elders (and plants). #auntieforlife
We know abortions bans have nothing to do with love. They seek to control, they attempt to break our spirits (sigh, ya’ll know that ain’t possible), they’re designed to trap people in cycles of poverty, they’re design to sustain an impoverished, undereducated workforce whose only option is to work the jobs that create vast wealth for the people holding onto destructive capitalistic, patriarchal and oppressive ways. This is their death rattle, their last pathetic attempt at trying to stop our world from transforming and coming into balance
Nice try, you can find us out here working our magic and supporting our own like we have since Day 1.
