Skalalitude, Coast Salish Wisdom

“Skalalitude [is Coast Salish wisdom that says] when you are in proper harmonic relationship with the place where you live, the special places of power that are magnetic to you, and the many creatures of nature, then magic and beauty are everywhere. In a skalalitude state of mind, nature is a force for teaching and healing. To develop a skalalitude consciousness, Native children are taught to “listen with the third ear”, the heart, by spending time alone in wild places, aided by supportive adult teachers.”

Sitting with the wisdom of skalalitude and deep gratitude in my heart for the Coast Salish, Duwamish and Suquamish land that I live on and the generations of people who have stewarded this land.

Thank you Tahoma or Tacoma (aka Mt. Rainier) and fellow Sacred Mountains for watching over this land with a strong grace, beauty and inspiration.
